Buy more music online
CD sales are in decline and online music sales continue to grow. They're shiny, they're compact, but CDs don’t compete with the environmental footprint of an mp3 file. There are no physical shops needed to stock them, shops that need building, heating and staffing with people every working day. There are no deliveries needed to take the stock from the factory to the shop, so no delivery driver, no truck burning diesel fuel, and less traffic on the roads. No resources are required to manufacture a case, a paper insert, or the media itself – so no factory either (nor is there any need for the employees who can all now go look for more fulfilling occupations). And no need for a cabinet or case to store them in when you get them home.

If you know of any facts & figures concerning the volumes of CD sales please feel free to add them as comments.
